About Artist Getaway
The mission of Artist Getaway is to support artists in their work and provide opportunities to paint outside in locations near the Bay Area. An Artist Getaway trip is a plein air painting vacation for any level of experience and in any medium – watercolor, oil, acrylic, pastels, etc. Artist Getaway offers trips without formal art instruction, resulting in lower costs, while still providing coordinated travel and an environment where artists can share their experience and inspiration.
Plein air (painting in the open air) became famous in France I the 19th century. While outdoor locations are the focus of our trips, often times the hotels we stay at provide a conference room to paint indoors in addition to painting in the open air.
Artist Getaway was founded in 2012 by Samantha McNally. Samantha is a member of many artist communities including the California Watercolor Association, The East Bay Artist Guild, the North Bay Pleinair Painters and the Benicia Pleinair Painters.
Donna Corrigan is the current owner and organizer of Artist Getaway. She is a member of the California Watercolor Association, the Concord Art Association and has worked with the Art Guild of the Delta since 2013. Previous to her move to California, she was a member of the Art Students League of Denver and the Colorado Watercolor Society.
